Dragon Ball Z as many know, is the spin-off of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriyama's most famous Manga. Dragon Ball had such an impact on Japan, that it definitely called for a sequel. Now, I have read Dragon Ball, and it's my most favorite Manga that I know of. Of coarse I don't know of much. Like Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z Manga is better than the anime. Dragon Ball Z is the longest running anime yet known, and for that, it has a lot, and I mean a lot, of filler episodes, (more like fill sagas), re-used cels and a lot of useless talking. That is why the Manga is better.
Dragon Ball Z begins when Master Roshi, (Goku's former master), holds a reunion on his little island somewhere in the middle of the sea. Since Dragon Ball, Goku has gotten married and has a son named Gohan. Gohan doesn't seem to be like Goku when he was younger, but we later find out that isn't true. All seems peaceful when a strange man approaches and says he is looking for a man named Kakarot. The man introduces himself as Radditz, and he is looking for his brother. But there is no one named Kakarot that we know of right? Wrong, it turns out that Goku is really Kakarot, and that he has come from a planet not even in their galaxy! Something must have happened to screw up Goku's programming as a kid, but he was sent to destroy Earth, but rather he protected it. Radditz is furious at the news and steals Gohan. If Goku didn't kill 100 humans by the next day, Gohan would be dead. But of coarse that won't happen because Goku NEVER looses. Thus, Dragon Ball Z begins it's long, but very intriguing story.
There is not much I can tell about the origin of the Manga, I just read it. I'm not sure if there is any Dragon Ball GT Manga, but if there is, I will try to review it. If you have seen the show, you have to read the Manga. It is in many ways better.
7/10
