Previously...
Once upon a time a girl named Pai (who isn't what she seems) ran into a guy named Yakumo (who would become far more than he was in the beginning) and the two joined forces.
Pai is of a species of tri-eyed humanoids known as the Sanjiyan. Yakumo? Well, he USED to be human before he ran into Pai and one thing led to another and he -- well, he had a change of "living" status. He died and was resurrected as Pai's immortal slave/guardian.
Eventually some sort of "relationship" began to form between the two, but wasn't explored further as the two were seperated. After that Yakumo quested for a long time to find Pai, and when he did find her he found that she was human and had forgotten her history.
Now they're questing for Pai's homeland. Why? It's for Pai's benefit to do this trip, and it couldn't hurt Yakumo either. As this book opens it looks like that trip is just about coming to a close.
And now...
Looks like the quest to find the ancient homeland of Pai's race (the tri-eyed Sanjiyan). And with a few allies for the trip it looks like things are finally going to come to a good end.
Yeah, right. Don't count on it.
Seems Pai's homeland has seen better days, and livelier days since the whole place is now rather... well, it's as dead as Yakumo is. And a major enemy is there working to revive a big bad threat.
That's when the floor falls out from under the readers and things are shaken up badly.
I can't say why this is so, but the desperate fight to the end is driven by love, and sacrifice, and fear which becomes strength. It's a good end, and a most intense finale...
But guess what? It goes on.
Back to Tokyo and more troubles for Pai and Yakumo.
Looks like swarms of locusts are gathering and that can only be evil -- especially since they do the Mummy evil swarming clouds of death thing and bring nothing but trouble to Pai/Yakumo.
Could 3x3 Eyes TPB 9 get any worse? Probably.
Ok. Breakdown time.

What's Hot?
It's one of those old school classic "Essentials", and yet another example of horror that I can actually take. Alongside such series like Urusei Yatsura, Oh My Goddess!, Tenchi Muyo (original), Sailor Moon and a few others this is one of those classic Essentials that you must read.
It's horror, but it's also good horror. This book, for instance, has some wicked twists which I didn't see coming and that's a good thing. As a read I can see why it's one of the long lasting series, it's good.
What's Not?
Nothing. It's a classic Essentials. Give it a shot before you judge it.
Moments to Remember?
The events in Kunlun and the fate of Pai and company (first half of the book) during their visit to Kunlun is the most memorable.
What to Ignore?
Me. Ignore me. (My only regret is I didn't review this from 3x3 Eyes TPB 6 or 7.
Overall?
One of the Essential classics, a series you should check out and give a chance.
For horror it's some kind of good and another example of the genre that might sway me towards it (and I am most definitely not into the horror genre on the most part yet here's another title drawing me towards it!)
Give it a shot, and see what you think of it! You might like it!
